Hello! My name is Nicolette.

I have been tutoring Math and ELA at Tutoring by Christine for two years now. I tutor students Kindergarten-Fifth Grade. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Childhood Education (1-6) and a Master’s degree in Childhood Education for Students with Disabilities (1-6). I am trained in Comprehensive Orton Gillingham Plus from the Institute of Multi-Sensory Education for Kindergarten through 3rd grade students. I try to implement the Orton Gillingham approach into my reading lessons as much as possible.

I believe any student can achieve their goals if they set their mind to it. I feel it is important to work with students and encourage them to push towards achieving academic accomplishments.  When students achieve their goals, they feel good about themselves, allowing them to grow and work towards more challenging goals. I use special techniques to teach my students to learn how to change their weaknesses into strengths while having fun!

Hello! My name is Taylor.

I have a bachelor’s degree in childhood education 1-6 and I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in teaching students with English as their second language. I am also trained in Orton Gillingham and use those practices in my lessons.

I am a fourth grade special education teacher. I strive to help my students reach their full potential while helping them to feel included, understood, and admired. My goal as an educator is to create a lasting impact on the lives of my students and to mold them into future leaders. I enjoy teaching every subject.

Hello! My name is Christine.

I have over 20 years experience teaching in the Staten Island Community.
I started “Tutoring By Christine” in 2010 to help empower students with knowledge, confidence and ability to advance and meet their academic goals. As I look back, I could have never expected to get so much in return. It is so fulfilling to be a part of the journey many of our students go through and to see them come out on top. I love that “Aha” moment- when a student who has been struggling makes a breakthrough.

The biggest compliment that I ever received as a tutor and teacher is that I make students feel smart and that I give them confidence. My goal is to encourage each and every student that I come in contact with to reach his or her fullest potential. I truly believe that self-confidence is essential to one’s emotional, intellectual, and physical well-being.

I have tutored students for state exams, TACHS and SHSAT exams, Regents and PSAT/SAT exams. Quite often, I will tutor the same student throughout the years for each of the exams- I am honored when students return again and again for prep, and when their siblings follow. When students’ academic needs are not being met in the traditional way, I am fortunate to be in the position to be able to fill this gap, whether it be by enriching students’ education or by providing needed support.

I love it when students text me pictures of their acceptance letters or of their impressive SAT scores. Tutoring at “Tutoring By Christine” has enriched my life in so many ways, and I have my students and their parents to thank for it. Thank You!

Hello! My name is Lisa.

I’ve been tutoring math at Tutoring by Christine for many years now. I tutor 2-10 grade math and 7-8 grade math for the TACHS & SHSAT test prep courses. I also do private one-on-one math here at Tutoring by Christine.

My goal is to help my students gain the strength and self confidence they need in the areas of math that they would find difficult to learn on their own. I use special techniques to teach my students to learn and remember mathematics to help them get passing grades.

Tutoring doesn’t feel like a job to me; it’s fun! Every day is an adventure filled with learning for me and my students.

Teaching math requires a lot of creativity because all students see math differently. Every year, I meet students who enter my classroom with high math anxiety. Too many young people do not see themselves as mathematically (and academically) capable. I listen to their stories to gauge why learning math has been a struggle, then use their experience as a guide to be a better math teacher for them.

I love watching students grow into confident mathematicians. I love the feeling they get when they at first can’t figure it out and then are able to finally understand it. The work I do is impactful and powerful and I love it!
