About This Course:

The SHSAT Foundations: Spring 2027 program is designed for seventh-grade students who want to strengthen their Math and ELA skills while beginning meaningful preparation for the digital, adaptive Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT).

Through 30 hours of in-person, small-group instruction (limited to 15 students), students receive individualized attention from experienced instructors, strengthen essential academic skills, develop problem-solving strategies, and build confidence as they begin preparing for the SHSAT.

Verbal Skills:

Students strengthen reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary through targeted lessons and guided practice. Instruction introduces SHSAT-style reading passages and language questions while helping students develop strategies for understanding texts, recognizing grammatical patterns, and improving accuracy.

Math Skills:

Students build essential mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills through structured instruction and practice. Lessons reinforce foundational math concepts while introducing strategies for approaching multi-step problems and SHSAT-style math questions.

Practice, Assessments & Test-Taking Strategies:

Throughout the program, students complete guided practice activities and six full-length practice tests designed to reinforce learning, familiarize students with the SHSAT format, and track their progress. Instruction also emphasizes test-taking strategies and time management techniques to help students approach the timed exam with greater confidence.

Instructors provide ongoing feedback, identify areas needing improvement, and reinforce concepts through targeted review and weekly homework assignments.

Individualized Instruction:

At Tutoring by Christine, we recognize that students have different learning needs and academic strengths. Our small-group setting allows instructors to support students of varying abilities, including students with IEPs, general education students, and advanced learners. We focus on helping every student strengthen their skills, build confidence, and reach their full potential.

Course Materials:

All instructional materials, including course workbooks and access to the online test preparation platform, are included in the tuition.

Breaks: No classes April 20–30 (Spring Recess). Both subjects meet 10 times, for a total of 30 instructional hours.

After completing SHSAT Foundations, students can continue with SHSAT Intensive Skill Building to strengthen more advanced skills and develop additional test-taking strategies.
