About this course:
The SHSAT Summer Intensive is designed for students entering 8th grade who are ready to begin focused preparation for the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT). This structured program helps students strengthen both the academic skills and the problem-solving strategies required to perform well on the exam.
Across 32 hours of small-group instruction (capped at 12 students), students work through targeted lessons, guided practice, and strategy development that prepare them for the types of complex questions found on the SHSAT. Instruction focuses on building accuracy, improving efficiency, and helping students develop the analytical thinking skills needed for success.
Students participate in lessons that strengthen reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and mathematical reasoning while learning how to approach challenging SHSAT-style questions with confidence. By the end of the program, students are well prepared to transition into the SHSAT Score Builder program, where they complete full-length practice tests and refine their test-taking strategies before the exam.
Verbal Skills:
Students strengthen reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary through targeted lessons and guided practice. Instruction focuses on analyzing complex passages, identifying grammatical patterns, and applying strategies to approach the revising and editing questions found on the SHSAT.
Math Skills:
Students build and reinforce the mathematical reasoning required for success on the SHSAT. Lessons review key math concepts while introducing strategies for solving the multi-step and challenging problem types that frequently appear on the exam.
Practice & Feedback:
Throughout the program, students complete structured practice activities that allow them to apply new strategies and reinforce skills learned in each session. Instructors provide ongoing feedback and guidance so students can identify areas for improvement, track their progress, and steadily build confidence as their abilities grow.
