Jill Tutors: ELA K-12 / Social Studies K-9 / Science K-9 / TACHS Verbal

Bachelors degree in elementary education and minor in child psychology.

Hello! My name is Jill.

I have been with Tutoring by Christine for about 10 years. I love what I do because it helps students achieve their potential and because I interact with children of different ages, races and cultures. Tutoring allows me to provide individual instruction and give students the attention they need to boost their self confidence and self worth. Students who have a good self-esteem prove to have better peer relationships in the future.

What is the Orton-Gillingham method?

I am Orton-Gillingham certified, which is a highly structured approach that breaks reading and spelling down into smaller skills involving letters and sounds, and then building on these skills over time. It also was the first approach to use multi-sensory teaching strategies to teach reading, which is considered extremely effective for teaching students with dyslexia. This means that educators use sight, hearing, touch, and movement to help students connect and learn the concepts being taught.

There’s a misconception that Orton-Gillingham is only a one-on-one tutoring program for children with dyslexia. A multi-sensory approach makes reading easier for all children, not only those with dyslexia. When used in our classrooms, Orton-Gillingham makes all children better readers.
